Easy DIY Mosquito Dunk Buckets
What is a Mosquito Dunk Bucket?
Mosquito Dunk Buckets (also known as Mosquito Buckets of Doom) are DIY mosquito traps. By using a mosquito dunk tablet, a 5-gallon bucket, and not much else, you can create an effective mosquito trap that is safe for humans and other wildlife.
Supplies to Make Your Bucket
Five gallon buckets and lids
Weeds, yard debris, etc.
Impact driver and bit
Water (I used hose water but rain water is ideal)
Instructions
These Mosquito Dunk Buckets are super easy and inexpensive to put together. Here’s what I did to make mine.
Gather weeds and other yard debris and place in a pile. You’ll want a large handful for each bucket.
Take the lids off of your buckets and line them up.
Take a heaping handful of yard debris and place in each bucket.
Fill each five gallon bucket about ¾ of the way full.
Securely place lids back on buckets and drill around six holes in each.
Place your buckets around your yard in areas that are most prone to mosquitos.
Mosquito Bucket of Doom FAQs
How Do The Dunk Buckets Work?
These DIY mosquito traps work by targeting the mosquito larvae. The organic material in the stagnant water serves as bait for female mosquitoes to lay their eggs. The Mosquito Dunk is formulated with Bti, which is a bacterium toxic to mosquito larvae.
Do I Have to Use a Lid on My Bucket?
While you don’t have to use a lid, you should cover your bucket somehow. Why? To prevent small animals from falling into the buckets without a way to get out. If you do not want to drill into plastic, you can also consider securing chicken wire to the top of the bucket.
If you are in a pinch, you can consider dropping a long stick into your open-lidded bucket that can serve as a ladder should an animal fall inside your bucket.
How Long Do They Last?
The Mosquito Dunk manufacturer recommends replacing every 30 days.
Where Do I Find Mosquito Dunks?
I found my Mosquito Dunks on Amazon.
